Atheist - Unquestionable Presence (1991)

Unquestionable Presence is a groundbreaking technical death metal release, pushing the boundaries of what was considered possible with extreme metal at the time. The album is loaded with intricate compositions, blending brutal death metal with jazz-fusion elements, unconventional time signatures, and masterful musicianship. Tragically, original bassist Roger Patterson was killed in a car accident while the band was writing and demoing Unquestionable Presence, but before the album was recorded. Cynic/Atheist bassist Tony Choy was brought in and delivers an outstanding performance here. While a tough road getting to it, it’s arguably their best album.

2019 US pressing on Season Of Mist.
