Om - Variations On A Theme (2005)

Formed by bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius, both former members of the massively influential stoner band Sleep, Om crafts a minimalist yet immersive sound. The album consists of three extended tracks—“On the Mountain at Dawn,” “Kapila’s Theme,” and “Annapurna”—totaling approximately 45 minutes with composition featuring Cisneros’s hypnotic bass lines and meditative vocals, complemented by Hakius’s steady, trance-inducing drumming. This combination creates a repetitive, mantra-like atmosphere that draws you into a contemplative state, if you could be so inclined. Easily the most straightforward album by Om and a great place to jump into their weird microcosm of sound.

2005 US pressing on the appropriately named label, Holy Mountain.
