Welcome finds Santana embracing jazz fusion and spiritual themes under the influence of bandleader Carlos Santana’s growing interest in Eastern philosophies and spirituality. Following the departure of Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon, the album introduces a new lineup, including vocalists Leon Thomas and Flora Purim, as well as keyboardist Tom Coster. While the album is less focused on the rock elements of Santana’s earlier work, leaning into more meditative and experimental territory, it’s an engaging and bold release.
1973 US pressing on Columbia.
