Hell Awaits is Slayer’s second full length album is a blistering statement of intent. The songs are tight, more complex, and the band is playing with a level of ferocity that I am not sure has been laid to tape by any metal band before them. Hell Awaits is largely overshadowed by Slayer’s breakthrough follow up, Reign In Blood, but it remains a personal favorite. One of the earliest shows I had ever seen was Slayer touring this album in the summer of 1985 with pre-Seven Churches Possessed as their opening act. Life changing!
Original 1985 US pressing on Combat/Metal Blade Records. I had initially got this on cassette (my dad bought it for me!) but then I picked the LP up used a few years later at a local shop called Rubato Records for about five bucks. The cover has a little wear, but the LP has always been primo!
