Tomita - Pictures At An Exhibition (1975)

Isao Tomita’s Pictures At An Exhibition is a wild electronic interpretation of Modest Mussorgsky’s 1874 piano suite. Utilizing a Moog synthesizer, Tomita reimagines the original compositions, infusing them with a futuristic and otherworldly quality. This rendition stands out for its unique approach, offering a distinct contrast to other interpretations, such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s 1971 album of the same name. Not sure why I am hitting all of these Mussorgsky compositions lately, but it seems to be a theme of late and I am not complaining.

1975 US pressing on RCA Red Seal.
