While the cover gives an awkward culty vibe… musically, Love Devotion Surrender is an astounding collaborative album between two mammoth guitarists. The album leans into jazz/fusion vibes mostly, but Santana brings a Latin warmth into the mix in ways that perfectly counter McLaughlin’s wild playing. With a host of serious players involved, both from Santana and Mahavishnu Orchestra, this is an unexpectedly deep listen.
