Emerson, Lake & Palmer (1970)

Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s self-titled debut album introduced the world to the band’s fusion of classical influences, jazz improvisation, and rock energy. Featuring ambitious compositions like “The Barbarian” and “Take a Pebble,” the album demonstrated their technical mastery and willingness to push progressive rock’s boundaries. The album is complex, heavy, a bit poncy at times, but an absolutely fantastic listen. I’m down with most of the band’s 1970s releases, but this is likely my favorite.

1971 US pressing on Cotillion. Well traveled, but sounds great.
