Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus (1971)

Tarkus solidified Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s status as one of progressive rock’s most ambitious bands. The title track, a sprawling seven-part suite, combined Keith Emerson’s dazzling keyboard work, Greg Lake’s evocative vocals, and Carl Palmer’s precise, forceful drumming into a dramatic narrative of conflict and evolution. The album’s second half explored a mix of styles, from the satirical “Jeremy Bender” to the jazz-inflected “Infinite Space.” A wild ride, this Tarkus thing.

1971 US pressing from Cotillion.
