Granicus’ self-titled album is a heavy rock powerhouse that blends high-energy riffage, searing guitar solos, and Woody Leffel’s distinct vocal style that soars into near-operatic territory. This is proto-metal. The dynamic shifts in tempo and intensity give the album a sense of urgency, with moments of relentless aggression balanced by more melodic, psychedelic-tinged passages. Sadly, the album did not get the attention it deserved at the time and things went south soon after its release. This is a 1970s masterpiece, tragically overlooked to this day, but this LP is the shit! Get this in your life!
2010 US repress from RCA and I am a little amazed that this even exists. US label RidingEasy has a reissue of this album coming up and if you can swing it, I’d strongly recommend getting yourself a copy of that edition.
