Jupiter marked Atheist’s return after a 17-year hiatus, delivering a tightly wound burst of technical death metal that reaffirms the band’s signature complexity and precision. The album is aggressive and compact, with rapid-fire riffage, frenetic drumming, and layered arrangements that reflect both the band’s legacy and their updated sound. Despite a wave of hate from some metal folks around this album, it fucking smokes. I don’t really get what’s not to love?
