Black Widow’s self-titled album builds on the dark, occult-themed progressive rock they introduced with Sacrifice, while refining their sound with a more polished and dynamic approach. The album features a blend of heavy rock, jazz influences, and atmospheric passages, making for an an eerie yet complex listen. The album is quite awesome and a notable departure from the heavy satanic and occult vibes of the their debut. Yet, the album retains a dark edge and damn, it’s good. Easily my favorite release by Black Widow.
1970 UK pressing from CBS Records. While not my typical style, I may have aggressively haggled to land this and a copy of Amon Düül II’s Vive La Trance at a record show some years back and while I think I made out on top, I feel a little guilty about it. Both are a bit road-worn, but solid LPs, and rare enough, nonetheless.
