Condemned is the debut album by North Carolina’s Confessor and stands as a singular entry in the world of progressive doom metal. The album puts forward complex song structures, unorthodox rhythms, and the striking high-pitched vocals of Scott Jeffreys, which set it apart from typical doom or thrash releases of the era. The band’s guitar work is both heavy and intricate, weaving technical precision with crushing atmosphere. Confessor truly forged a path of doom metal that has not been ventured by anyone but themselves, before or since. One of a kind!
Original 1991 UK pressing from Earache Records that I picked up at a record show ages ago for like $10. I never miss the money, but if I didn’t grab this I’d still be bumming about it. Haven’t seen it in the wild since.
