Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow is (obviously) the debut from his band Rainbow and a pivotal moment for guitarist Ritchie Blackmore following his departure from Deep Purple. Teaming up with vocalist Ronnie James Dio and most of Elf, the album blends hard rock with fantasy-themed lyrics and classical influences, laying the foundation for what would become a defining sound for early metal. Aside from being a monumental release, it remains an engaging and enjoyable listening experience at any time. Solid tunes, end to end.
1975 US pressing on Polydor. Received a modest pile of records back in the 1990s that my friend’s older brother was unloading and this was part of that stash.
