Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi - Seventh Star (1986)

Seventh Star was meant to be released as a Tony Iommi solo album in collaboration with Glenn Hughes, but apparently label heads got involved and pushed the album out as a Sabbath release, which did not help it’s reception one bit. As a Iommi/Hughes album, this jives, but cast as proper Black Sabbath release calls all kinds of shit into question. Full disclosure, I hated this album when it came out but eventually picked it up at a record show and it’s grown on me a lot. Very mid-1980s heavy metal, over produced and cheesy, but there is some good shit going on. Iommi’s writing remains excellent and honestly, Glenn Hughes sounds fucking fantastic. The album has issues, but if you are able to overlook the flaws, there are some gems within.

1986 US pressing on Warner Bros. Records. Hole punch in the corner but it sounds great.
