Smog is the second album by Dug Dug’s and reflect a pretty major shift in the band, now a power trio scaled down from a five piece. While the band delivered some excellent psychedelic pop/rock on their debut, Smog leans into blazing heavy rock with psych and progressive elements, including complex song structures and intense playing all around. This was the album that really got my into Dug Dug’s and ranks at the top of my list for crucial heavy rock LPs of the early 1970s that get ignored by the general public. If you know ‘em, you know.
This is an unofficial European reissue from a label called Music For Special Experiences and outside of the name of the label, it looks and sounds like a legitimate pressing. Unsure of the release year, but I picked this one up at the unparalleled Wah Wah Records in Barcelona back in 2019.
