Mountains In The Clouds was originally issued in 1970 under the title Infinite Search, but was remixed, retitled, and reissued with the bonus track “Cérečka” in 1972. I literally just picked this up and am not too familiar with the original version, so cannot compare. This is Miroslav Vitous’ debut release and features a heavy hitting lineup including Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, Jack DeJohnette, and Joe Henderson, and l blends post-bop, fusion, and avant-garde elements into a dynamic and exploratory session. Vitous’s jaw dropping bass playing anchors the compositions while allowing space for each musician’s improvisational chops to come forward as well. Got this on a whim and am digging it quite a bit.
1972 US pressing on Atlantic Records.
