Neu! 2 is known as much for its innovation as for its unconventional approach to overcoming budget constraints. The first half of the album continues their minimalist, motorik-driven style with tracks like “Für Immer,” a propulsive and hypnotic piece built on steady rhythms and shimmering guitar textures. The second half, however, features manipulated versions of earlier tracks—played at different speeds or altered with tape effects—due to the band running out of funds during recording. The first time I ever listened to this album, I was confused and fascinated by total lunacy of the album, particularly the second side. Not for everyone, but I think this shit is where it’s at!
2010 European pressing from Grönland Records and sounds great, albeit whack as fuck.
