Stand Up And Be Counted introduces dedicated lead vocalist Max Bacon and also highlights a noticeable shift to a more commercial sound. While Nightwing came up in the NWOBHM era, they’ve maintained a more 70s style hard rock style and this remains true, but this new direction seems to only highlight how out of step the band are from their time… and by that, I hate to say it,.. out of touch. This feels like 1978 roller rink tunes to me, hah. While their first two are odd and solid albums, this one is more or less just an oddity. Check it out if you are already familiar with Nightwing, but don’t start here.
1983 UK pressing on Gull Records. Picked this up at a local record show this past Sunday and is my first ever spin. Have been lucky to find the first three Nightwing LPs in the wild, in order of release, and all in fantastic condition. If I come across their fourth LP, I’ll probably have to get it despite my hot take on this one.
