Rainbow - On Stage (1977)

The minimally name On Stage is Rainbow’s first live album, capturing the band during their Rising tour at the height of their early run. Recorded across several performances in Germany and Japan, the album highlights the dynamic interplay between Ritchie Blackmore’s fiery guitar work and Ronnie James Dio’s commanding vocals. The track listing is a bit on the short side, with the band instead opting to feature extended versions of “Catch The Rainbow” and Blackmore’s Deep Purple tune “Mistreated” that each take up a full LP side. Regardless, the band is on fire here and it’s all excellently produced by the unparalleled Martin Birch.

1977 US pressing on Oyster/Polydor. For an album that doesn’t look like much from the outside, this set serves it up hot. So good!
