Black Sabbath - Cross Purposes (1994)

Cross Purposes is a surprisingly sharp and melodic entry in Black Sabbath’s later catalog, marking the brief return of Tony Martin on vocals after Ronnie James Dio’s second exit. With Geezer Butler back on bass and Tony Iommi holding the reins, the album leans into a cleaner, more radio-friendly sound without entirely abandoning Sabbath’s heaviness. Honestly, I am not super familiar with this album, but it’s doom laden as fuck. I largely ignored the Tony Martin fronted Sabbath albums back in the day, but I now believe that was a huge mistake. This album crushes.

2024 US/Canadian reissue as part of the Anno Domini 1989-1995 box from Warner Records and it sounds fantastic!
