The Eternal Idol marks the beginning of the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath, and while it didn’t make huge waves commercially, it brought back a level of consistency and theatrical grandeur that had been diminished over the years. The riffs are massive and polished, with Iommi holding down the fort as the sole original member, crafting slabs of mid-tempo doom with a heavy metal sheen. Tony Martin actually sounds fantastic here and I feel a little bad that I so harshly dismissed this period of Sabbath for so many years. This album sounds pretty damn great.
2025 US RSD reissue from Warner Records and it sounds phenomenal .
