Black Sabbath - Forbidden (1995)

Forbidden often gets canned as Black Sabbath’s weakest album, and to be sure—it’s a strange, clunky affair as the band struggles to find their path during a changing musical landscape at late stage career. Despite its flaws, there’s a weird charm in how offbeat it is—like a misstep that’s remains interesting despite obvious flaws. The contrast between Forbidden and the superior Cross Purposes album is fascinating. Glad to have it though! Anything from Iommi is worth checking out. The man is a fucking treasure.

2024 US/Canadian reissue (remixed version) from Warner Records as part of the Anno Domini 1989-1995 box set. I’m not all that familiar with the generally maligned original mix, but the mix here is definitely not an issue. The LP sounds great.
