Black Sabbath - Headless Cross (1989)

Headless Cross finds Black Sabbath diving headfirst into big 80s heavy metal vibes, with Tony Martin fully settled in as frontman and Cozy Powell bringing bombastic energy behind the kit. The album leans hard into occult imagery and dramatic flair, especially on the title track and “Devil and Daughter,” where icy synths and thunderous riffs almost conjure a Hammer horror vibe. Tony Iommi’s guitar work is sharp and memorable, blending classic doom textures with flashy, late-’80s metal flourishes. It’s one of the most produced and solid effort from the Martin era, without a doubt.

2024 US/Canada reissue and part of the Anno Domini 1989-1995 box set. This is my first spin from the set and Headless Cross is sounding amazing.
