Black Sabbath - Tyr (1990)

Tyr is Black Sabbath at their most fantastical, weaving Norse mythology into a glossy, melodic heavy metal framework that feels more like a power metal epic than their doom-laden roots. Tony Martin delivers soaring, theatrical vocals over Iommi’s tightly wound riffs, while the band locks into a sleek, almost regal sound—epic without being bloated. It’s a strange but compelling record in Sabbath’s catalog—bold, polished, and defiantly out of step with the trends. I seriously was not expecting to enjoy this album as much as I am. Holy hell, it’s great.

2025 US reissue, as part of the Anno Domini 1989-1995 box set. Again, I am super stoked at how good this sounds.
