Eyes is a raw, fuzz-drenched slab of proto-metal and heavy psych that leans hard into the darker, trippier edges of late ’60s rock. The German quartet channels early Sabbath, Blue Cheer, and Hendrix with thick riffs, chaotic solos, and a general sense of wild abandon. There’s a loose, jammy feel to much of the record, but the band still manages to deliver tight, punchy grooves when it counts. The production is rough and murky, but it works in their favor as sounds like it was recorded in a haze of smoke and feedback, and that’s a bit of the unspoken cool vibes that this album is all about. I sort of hate the cover, but the tunes are so good…
2007 German reissue from Second Battle. Stumbled across this at a record show a few years back and didn’t hesitate for a second before picking it up. Excellent.
