Innocence Is No Excuse sees Saxon diving headlong into the mid-’80s melodic metal sound, with a sleeker production and an emphasis on hooks and radio potential. While it divided some longtime fans, the songwriting is tight, and Biff Byford’s vocals remain strong and emotive throughout. It’s a snapshot of Saxon navigating the changing landscape of 1980s heavy metal. While commercially sleek and polished, the album manages to pack some punch.
1985 UK pressing from EMI. Picked this up on Reading, England while working there a few years back. Added extra photos of the small images on the back as they add a new layer of hilarity to the album front image and title. Good times.
