The Distortion Field marked Trouble’s first ever studio album with Kyle Thomas (of Exhorder fame) on vocals and steering the band into a sleeker, more hard rock-oriented direction. While the doom roots are still present —particularly in the churning riffs and brooding atmosphere—there’s a more modern polish and an emphasis on straightforward songcraft. I very much like this record a lot. It fucking jams. Still, there’s something about the striking contrast between this record and their last (Simple Mind Condition) with Eric Wagner that haunts me.
2022 European reissue from Hammerheart Records.
