Uriah Heep (1970)

Uriah Heep’s 1970 self-titled debut (in the US market)…, is essentially a version of the band’s true debut Very ’Eavy …Very ’Umble. The LP is a raw, eclectic entry point for a band still discovering their identity but already brimming with ambition. It melds bluesy hard rock with dramatic flourishes and gothic overtones, thanks largely to David Byron’s theatrical vocals and Ken Hensley’s swirling organ. Track listed is a bit different and includes tracks from their second album Salisbury. While the albums didn’t gain a lot of traction at the time, it stands as a major proto-metal statement from the time. The cover on this US version is all metal too, hah!

1970 US pressing from Mercury. Well traveled, but a solid player, end to end.
