Locked In finds Wishbone Ash further pursuing the American FM rock sound they’d flirted with on There’s The Rub, but the results are more uneven. Produced by Tom Dowd, who’d worked with bands like Cream and Allman Brothers, the album trades the band’s intricate guitar duels for a sleeker, more commercial groove. Laurie Wisefield delivers some sharp playing, but the energy feels dialed back—less exploratory. All said and done, I actually like this album a lot more than I expected! Just picked this up the other day at the recommendation of a trusted friend and I think it hits the mark for what it is. Unsure if I am going to go further with the band at this point.
1976 US pressing from Atlantic Records that I just picked up from Daybreak Records in Seattle. Literally my first spin of this LP.
