Wishbone Ash - There’s The Rub (1974)

There’s The Rub marks a new phase for Wishbone Ash, introducing guitarist Laurie Wisefield after founding member Ted Turner’s departure. It leans into a smoother, more melodic approach than their earlier dual-guitar-driven hard rock, brushing against soft prog and radio-friendly AOR, but it manages to retain a nice edge somehow. Recorded in the US and produced by Bill Szymczyk (of Eagles fame), the album has a glossy, transatlantic sheen—less raw but still anchored in their signature twin-lead interplay. While I prefer the band’s earlier stuff, this record is solid.

1973 UK pressing on MCA Records. Landed this at Flashback Records in London (Shoreditch) and it’s a beauty.
