Heavy Metal Maniac is a raw and frenzied slab of early speed metal from Canadian trio Exciter. It’s all blistering tempos, chainsaw riffs, and Dan Beehler’s piercing shrieks—plus his wild drumming, which adds an almost unhinged energy to the whole thing. The production is rough, but it fits the band’s no-frills, biker-from-hell aesthetic. The whole album feels like it could crash into a wall at any moment, but it pulls through in spectacular fashion. Dig it.
