Acquiring The Taste is the second album by Gentle Giant and also where the band really leaned into their avant-garde tendencies, abandoning any lingering notions of accessibility from their debut. It’s an eccentric, labyrinthine album where medieval motifs, jazz fragments, and experimental electronics rub shoulders in weird harmony. It’s not always an easy listen, but for those up for the task, there’s a lot to enjoy here.
1971 Canadian pressing on Vertigo. That cover! Hah! Still need a copy of Gentle Giant’s debut , but that one’s proven to be somewhat elusive over the years.
