Melissa is Mercyful Fate’s proper full length debut album and holy hell, this album sets the groundwork for a number of metal sub-genres from black metal to progressive thrash. The songs here are longer and feature significantly complex arrangements. Lyrically, Kong Diamond takes an almost concept album approach and the whole of the album feels connected, lyrically and thematically. For a band so early in their run, this is a strongly composed and developed album with incredible performance across the board.
