Legacy Of Brutality is less a proper album than a bastardized collection of Misfits recordings—mostly from the shelved Static Age sessions—stitched together and overdubbed by Glenn Danzig himself. The result is a rough, eerie slab of horror punk, drenched in lo-fi atmosphere and haunted by Danzig’s baritone croon. Danzig re-recorded many of the guitar and bass parts himself, leaving out other original members, which only added to the drama between he and his former band mates. While it’s still pretty enjoyable, I prefer the proper Static Age album that finally became available in 1997. Still, back in the 80s, this was all most of us had access to, cementing some sense of historical relevance to the album.
2005 US reissue on Plan 9/Caroline Records.
