Northwest Metalfest (1984)

The accurately titled Northwest Metalfest highlights a handful of up-and-coming bands from the US Pacific Northwest region and from someone who grew up in this area around this time, it’s a fine representation of PNW metal in 1984. Some notable bands here with Overlord, Rottweiler, and of course Metal Church. Early thrashers Mace is the most extreme band on this album and it’s also worth mentioning that the band Sato features future Alice In Chains bassist Mike Starr. All killer no filler here and easily one of my favorite metal comps.

OG 1984 US pressing on Ground Zero Records. Has this since the late 1980s, at least. I get a chuckle out of the hand-written scribble on the back noting the established bands that these bands sound like to the note taker. I always imagined they were by some college radio DJ looking for programming options.
