In Cauda Venenum finds Opeth continuing their journey deeper into lush, progressive rock territory while retaining a sense of heaviness in mood if not always in tone. It’s an ambitious, richly arranged record presented in both Swedish and English versions being released (this is the Swedish language version). This one seems stronger and heavier than the last three Opeth studio albums to my ears. The arrangements seem tight, complex with dark and beautiful harmonies throughout. Great LP.
