Overlord was an early 80s heavy metal band from Kirkland; Washington (just across the lake from Seattle). Aside from a handful of compilation appearances, their self released Broken Toys EP is the only proper release by the band during their existence. Even growing up In Kirkland myself, I don’t have much memory of these guys back in the day, but this is some great shit. Very early heavy metal, but with a pre-hardcore punk rock influence that way completely not a thing in 1982. Too punk for metalheads, too metal for punkers, Overlord wasn’t able to find their niche and eventually split up. Alas, this is a great little record.
2017 US expanded edition reissue on NW Metalworx Music. I had to make the tough choice between buying this reissue or a copy of the original, but all the extra tunes here won me over (and it’s a fantastic reissue). Might be cool to have both, honestly, but it was a Sophie’s choice kind of day.
