Tony Iommi & Glenn Hughes - Fused (2005)

Fused is at least the third (maybe fourth?) known attempt by longtime friends Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes to release a collaborative album together and the first time they successfully got the damn thing out at intended. First round was 1987’s Seventh Star album, which was released under the Sabbath moniker at the record label’s insistence and it hurt the perception of that album. They again collaborated on another album on 1996 and it was shelved for ages until finally released in 2004. Fused was actually recorded, completed, and released as intended and it’s a heavy soulful record with Iommi and Hughes laying down some heavy riffage while Hughes really fucking delivers an amazing vocal performance that soars above it all. It’s also a decidedly modern sounding record, not throwback territory at all, and shows how seriously relevant these fellas remain all these years into their respective careers. Excellent.

2024 US pressing (first time on vinyl) from Rhino Records and it sounds phenomenal. Included three bonus tracks on side D as well… this is how it’s done.
