U.S. Metal, Vol. II is of course the second installment of Mike Varney’s up and coming heavy metal compilation series. This time around we see some early recordings from bands like Exciter, Culprit, Wild Dogs, Virgin Steele, The Rods, Michael Angelo Batio and a band called Vixen... not the all female LA band but a short-lived Hawaiian act featuring famed guitarist Marty Friedman. Every time I look at these U.S. Metal comps I sort of reflect on how dumb they seem, but when I drop the needle on ‘em I remember how fucking good the tunes are.
1982 US pressing on Shrapnel Records. Just landed this while in DC a few days ago. There’s a Vol. III in this series, but I don’t have it yet.
