Control And Existence is the second album by Watchtower and it follows a four year gap since their debut and a few things have changed. Original guitarist Billy White left the band and completely retired from music, while vocalist Jason McMaster has also departed. Fortunately, new guitarist Ron Jarzombek and singer Alan Tecchio bring a lot solid talent into the band. And while the band still sounds distinctively like Watchtower, the feel is a bit different, still chaotic, but more controlled, tighter, if that’s even a thing to mention with this already insanely tight group of players. Not everyone love Tecchio’s voice, and while I also prefer McMaster, I think he does a great job laying it down here. Some of the best progressive/technical thrash metal ever laid to tape.
Original 1989 German pressing on Noise International. I’ve had the 2018 Music On Vinyl reissue for a while (and it’s great), but came across this OG copy a few months ago for $15 and could not pass it up. Sounds phenomenal.
