Anacrusis - Suffering Hour (1988)

Suffering Hour is a raw yet ambitious slab of progressive thrash that already hints at the band’s off-kilter identity. While it’s anchored in the Bay Area-influenced aggression of the time, there’s a striking emotional edge in Kenn Nardi’s vocals, which veer from desperate howls to melodic croons with almost jarring contrast. The production is scrappy and brittle, but that kind of works in its favor, giving the complex riffing and oddball tempo shifts a sense of chaos. Weird album and definitely worth checking out!

2019 US/EU reissue on Metal Blade Records.
