Black Sabbath - 13 (2013)

13 marks the last studio recordings of Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne, but sadly without Bill Ward on drums and that, I’d say, it probably the biggest drawback of this otherwise relatively solid album. The band partnered with the sometimes awesome, sometimes not, mega producer Rick Rubin and he pushed the band towards a bit of a retro vibe, but honestly… I rate this pretty highly for how good it is… Iommi and Geezer are in top form and Ozzy sounds fucking great. Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk fills in on drums and while Wilk is a fantastic drummer in his own right, he plays it really safe here and that’s the only bummer for me. No Bill Ward, and Brad Wilk has ability to deliver a Ward level tribute, but doesn’t for some reason. Otherwise… the album is excellent and no shade to Brad Wilk, seriously.

2013 US pressing on Vertigo/Republic Records and it’s a beautiful pressing… sounds amazing.
