Candlemass - Dactylis Glomerata (1998)

By the late 1990s, Candlemass had already split and band mastermind Leif Edling had already released the debut from his new act, Abstrakt Algebra. Allegedly, label heads pressed Edling to release his next album under the Candlemass moniker, and this “bastard period” of the band’s history begins. Oh, for me this is not a bad period, but many traditional doom purists dislike this era as it is more stoner/doom/psych in areas that the classic Candlemass lineup was not known for…. But fuck all if I don’t love this shit! The band’s follow up is even better, but this one is a gem!

2014 German reissue on Peaceville Records and it’s a lovely thing.
