Death Angel - Act III (1990)

The appropriately titled Act III is of course Death A gel’s third album and probably their boldest effort. While the band very much sounds like Death Angel, it’s undeniably clear they they are heading in directions that are less thrash oriented and have fully embraced elements of funk, prog, and dare I say… commercial sounding music? While that usually means terrible things for metal bands, Death Angel is low-key talented as fuck and can actually make accessible music that is also fantastic at the same time. A rare statement for me to say, for sure. I think this album is legendary, maybe only second to The Ultra-Violence. The band would experience a major vehicle accident while on tour and would eventually disband until their return in 2001.

2018 European reissue on Geffen Records/Music On Vinyl and it sounds great.
