Hammerheart is where Quarthon pushes Bathory straight up into viking metal, a sub-genre that didn’t even really exist in 1990. The album is epic, vast in scope, and really goes hard. While I’ve spent a good amount of time listening to Bathory up through Blood Fire Death, I am now in less familiar territory with Bathory, but this suits my fine.
2012 Swedish repress on Black Mark Production. Been slowly working on rounding up a Bathory collection on vinyl, but it’s generally pretty slow going. Landed this copy at the brilliantly curated Moondog Records in Las Vegas earlier this year.
