America’s Volume Dealer was the first album by Corrosion Of Conformity that (to me) seemed a bit of a disappointment. The band, having been on major label Columbia for a couple of successful album cycles maybe caught a glimpse of major commercial success and this album seems a bit crafted with that in mind. The biggest pain point for me though is that Reed Mullen’s drums are apparently an electronic kits and they sound weak, especially given that Reed was known as a beast on the kit. There’s a lot more to this story, but Reed left the band upon this LPs release and the band never quite regained its momentum, even through they released other decent material. Some band’s, even when they are faltering, still interest me. Corrosion Of Conformity is one of those bands.
2016 European pressing from Back On Black and it looks and sounds awesome. Cover is true to the original silver/black design (later reissues look pretty shitty) and includes a couple of bonus cuts on the D side. Great release.
