Angel Of Retribution marked Rob Halford’s triumphant return to Judas Priest after splitting with the band in 1992. Priest recruited American vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens as Halford’s replacement and released two studio albums and a double live album during that time, but despite Owens’ best efforts, the band was struggling creatively something hard in the 1990s. Halford’s return seems to have sparked renewed creativity and while not the ultimate comeback, Angel Of Retribution is pretty solid.
Make no mistake, if Jugulator and Demolition were available on vinyl, I’d be spinning those as well. I am also a little bent that the band excluded Nostradamus, their 2008 follow-up to this one and first full-blown concept album from the 2017 reissue campaign. Fingers crossed that happens at some point.
2017 European reissue on Columbia/Legacy/Sony Music and holy balls, this pressing is fantastic.
