So… I blind bought this album today at the vinyl garage near my house and I havent ever listened to Norwegian prog metallers Leprous before. What have I done here? Some members of the band seem to have played with Emperor’s Isahn (in his solo band), which is all progressive and quite good, so that’s a solid start. What I am hearing right now is some very modern progressive rock/metal that’s tight, highly produced, and a little in the vein of the Mars Volta or Porcupine Tree, yet more Scandinavian and generally metallic (and a little cheesy). I don’t really know what I’m describing here! Going to allow myself some time to take this shit in.
Partial update: I’m enjoying this, but not sure this is a thing I need much more of. Glad to have this album, but it might be all I require of this particular sound… until that changes, or not, who knows.
2017 German pressing on Inside Out Music/Sony Music. Seemingly lush gatefold presentation, 2xLP and also a CD of the full album. Wish that was still a thing that happened!
