Mastodon continues to evolve with Levitation. The album is still pretty sludgy, but also weirdly kind of tight and precise. The band seem to be inventing their own progressive evolution and I’m good with it. Lots going on. Noisy. Maybe not for everyone, but I love the progression from raw and dirty to progressive aspirations, even if that means some feathers get ruffled along the way. Bunch of bitches out there.
2015 US reissue on Relapse Records and it’s a beauty.
