Mastodon - Remission (2002)

Remission was my true introduction to Mastodon, probably from Nate Carson or my long time friend Greg Fee back in the Voivodfan.com days, followed quickly by the Lifesblood EP, but it was Remission that really pushed it all over the edge for me. Not only did I play the shit out of this any chance I got, but I championed this band to all my friends at the time. Probably the last time I was so passionate about pushing a band on my friends..: I’m too far down the rabbit hole anymore to sense what most people like anymore, haha. The album is brutal, a bit unhinged on every level but it somehow works…  At the time, this felt like what’s next for metal… which was sort of true at the time. Fantastic fucking record!

A little weird playing Slick Leg and then this, but  skipping Remission, which I don’t currently own as a standalone vinyl release (I have on CD). Have to remedy that sometime.

2025 US reissue from Relapse Records, 2xLP set with 45rpm playback speed and it sounds phenomenal.
